Just south of the well-known resort town of Bentota lies Induruwa — a quiet coastal village of golden beaches, nesting sea turtles and a peaceful estuary. It is one of the Southern Coast's most understated gems, and it happens to be home. Here is everything you need to know before you visit.
Induruwa sits on Sri Lanka's Southern Coast in the Galle District, roughly 5 km south of Bentota and about 90 minutes from Colombo. It occupies a narrow, beautiful strip of land between the Indian Ocean on one side and a calm estuary waterway on the other — which is exactly where Villa Estuary takes its name.
Despite being so close to Bentota's resorts and water sports, Induruwa keeps the unhurried feel of a working coastal village: fishing boats, coconut palms, small local shops and a long stretch of beach that never feels crowded.
Induruwa is easy to reach from Colombo and the airport by several routes:
When crossing the main coastal road on foot, take care — tuk-tuks and motorbikes move quickly. Emergency numbers worth saving: Police 119, and the local Kosgoda station on 091-2264071.

Induruwa Beach is a long, wide sweep of golden sand, backed by palms and far quieter than the busier stretches around Bentota. It is a place for slow mornings, long walks and watching the fishing boats come in, rather than crowds and jet skis.
From Villa Estuary the beach is around 300 metres away, just across the main coastal road. As with much of Sri Lanka's south coast, currents can be strong depending on the season, so take local advice before swimming and keep an eye on children.

One of Induruwa's most special features is its sea turtle hatchery, part of the conservation work that protects the endangered turtles nesting along this coast. Five species are found in Sri Lankan waters, and the hatchery cares for eggs and hatchlings before their release to the ocean.
It is a short walk from Villa Estuary and a genuinely moving experience — especially for families and children. We are always happy to help guests arrange a visit.

Behind the beach, Induruwa's estuary is a quiet world of brackish water, mangrove edges and abundant birdlife. Egrets wade in the shallows at dawn, kingfishers dart between the trees, and monitor lizards bask along the banks.
Our most talked-about neighbour is a wild Mugger crocodile, who occasionally comes to sunbathe on the far bank of the water stream — usually on the opposite side, very rarely near ours, and never aggressive. Watched from a safe distance, it is an unforgettable slice of wild Sri Lanka right on the doorstep.
Induruwa's location makes it a perfect base for exploring the Southern Coast. Within easy reach:
The Southern Coast's best weather runs from December to March, when days are dry and sunny and the sea is at its calmest — this is peak season. April, October and November are lovely shoulder months with fewer visitors and good weather. May to September is the wetter monsoon period on the south coast, quieter and greener, with occasional heavy showers.
Induruwa is best enjoyed at a boutique, family-run property rather than a large resort — that is where its quiet character really comes through. Villa Estuary sits between the beach and the estuary, with private villas and deluxe rooms, a pool set in a tropical garden, breakfast included, and a daily Sri Lankan cooking class with our host Oshika, who also speaks Japanese.
Whether you are here for a few nights or an extended stay, we would love to welcome you to our corner of Induruwa.
